| ADULT CLASSES: Level 1: The purpose of this class is to provide a good start for the beginning student. It consists of basic elements of the language. It is completely introductory and rudimentary. Students will learn the Italian alphabet, basic sounds and pronunciations, nouns and their gender usage. They will be introduced to basic verbs, such as 'to be' and 'to have,' and to simple conjugations. They will use a few articles and a few idiomatic expressions. Depending on class progress, the instructor will introduce more parts of speech and simple sentences. Level 2: Vocabulary will be expanded; verbs and adverbs will be added to already simple concepts learned. Verb tenses will be explained and practiced. More verb forms are introduced, as well as, a few of the 14 verb conjugations in the Italian language. Level 4: Capitalizes on grammatical concepts already taught, and adds degrees of difficulty. Greater attention is given to verb conjugations and usage, as well as more complex sentence structure. Conversational use is expanded as the capability of the class is able to accept and use. Advanced 1: By now we have advanced to the later chapters of the text. This is the most flexible level. The text is reviewed thoroughly, and conversational involvement is stressed. The instructor will be guided by the text, but will also use judgment to enhance the degree of difficulty of items studied. Non-text materials are commonly used, and the instructor has more flexibility to make greater use of the capability of the class in its development. The Conversation Class is for those who have attained some higher ability to communicate. Although the communications are relatively simple, they do require some proficiency from the first 3 or 4 levels. |
