The Il Pensiero (The Thought) was founded in 1904 by Luigi
Carnevale and is the only Italian newspaper in the state of
Missouri and Southern Illinois. He had a succession of
dedicated owners throughout the years. Probably the best
known was Dr. Cesare Avigni who owned the paper for 38
years until his death in 1962. The present owner is Cavaliere
Antonino Lombardo who purchased the paper in 1967 with his
brother-in-law, Cavaliere Tony Gandolfo. Lombardo has been
the sole owner and for 30 years he has supplied the community
with items of local, national and worldwide interest on every
facet of Italian life and culture. The paper is published on the
7th and the 22nd of each month with articles in both Italian and
English.
